Dalton State Women's Track Break Records And Set Personal Best In Savannah

Monday, March 12, 2018 - by Erik Simpson
The Lady Roadrunners Track team traveled to Savannah, Ga. on Saturday to participate in Tiger Orange and Blue Classic. On the agenda for the day? School records and personal bests.
The day began with freshman Kay Vradenburgh lopping two minutes off the 10,000-meter school record when she ran 43:20, good for sixth place overall. Following close behind her was sophomore Haley Hight; eighth place overall in 46:41, which was good enough for the third-fastest time in school history.

Up next was freshman Sarah Sullivan, bravely taking on the 3,000-meter Steeplechase which entails leaping over 35 barriers, including five water hazard jumps. She recorded a time of 14:19, which was good enough for fourth place overall, new school record and a personal best time.
There were three Lady Roadrunners in the 1500-meter run. Senior Nayeli Jacobo led the team with a fifth place performance and a time of 5:15. Freshman Noor Sabeeh crossed the line in 5:26, good for seventh place and a personal best time. Coming in 12th overall with a time of 5:58 was freshman Morgan King.
An hour later, Ms. Nayeli and Ms. Noor found themselves toeing the line again in the 800-meter run. Even on tired legs, Ms. Nayeli finished sixth overall in 2:31, while Ms. Noor finished 13th overall at 3:38.
Sophomore Ana Karen "AK" Padilla ran the 5,000-meter run, surpassing her expectations while finishing in 22:04, good enough for seventh place overall.
Ms. Morgan, Ms. Noor, Ms. Nayeli, and Ms. Sullivan teamed up for the day's final event, the 4x400-meter relay. The ladies tore up the track and set a new school record, finishing in 4:40.
"It was a great day," said new Dalton State Coach Dean Thompson. "Every athlete ran faster than their projected times today. It was inspiring to watch them compete so hard. I can't describe how immeasurably proud I am of this bunch and what they did on the track today. It's an honor work with such dedicated athletes."
The Lady Roadrunners will be in action on March 23 at The Island Meet in Gulf Shores, Al., where they'll be hunting more school records and personal best times.
