Bradley Sheriff Candidate Is A Flip Flopper - And Response (2)

Tuesday, January 16, 2018

I was reading Captain Steve Lawson’s press release regarding his run for Sheriff in Bradley County on the Chattanoogan News.

It was quite a fairy tale reading Captain Lawson’s description of his miraculous recovery from a full-fledged Democratic Party candidate of not that long ago to his current bid in seeking the top position in the Republican primary for sheriff on May 1. I always wonder about these flip floppers, and what kind of leader they will be.

I would like to see Captain Lawson’s primary voting record, what party ballots has he picked up?   As a candidate, surely Captain Lawson could go to the Bradley County Election Commission and produce participation in at least two Republican primary ballots since his transformation.  Or, was this miraculous transformation from Democrat just as recent as picking up papers to run for office?

If you truly embrace the ideology of the Democrat Party, just having an employment experience could hardly wash you clean of liberal notions. For Captain Lawson to state that his employment in commerce and dabbling in free enterprise fundamentally flipped his political ideology is as far reaching as the tooth fairy.

Captain Lawson of Bradley, tell the truth, and that won’t cost you dime in campaign funds.  You chose to run as a Republican in the primary because you believe that capturing the unhappy conservative friends of the Commission is your best opportunity to unseat the incumbent.

Captain Lawson is no Republican, and he did not have a miraculous awakening of enlightened thinking.  He is a flip flopper as a campaign strategy.

People are accustomed to politicians and political candidates, especially, not telling the truth.  Politicians often under estimate the wisdom of the voting public. For some reason, politicians believe the voting public is IQ deficient.  I might be, but I know the rest of you did not just get off the turnip truck.

Wake up, Captain Lawson is as Dem as it gets.

Captain Lawson, your fairy tale explanation of political party jumping is a fun press release read, but it has no connection to the truth.

By the way, Bradley County has awesome neighbors, and the best agriculture ever.  So glad, Chattanoogan is covering their politics.

The writer should do their due diligence and take the time to speak with Mr. Lawson before forming their flawed opinion.  And I really shouldn’t have to point out that the office of sheriff has no bearing on the issues that divide us politically.  They don’t enact legislation, they uphold legislation.  That is something that the current sheriff, despite his political affiliation is unable to do for himself much less for anyone else.

I’ve known Steve for over 20 years and you won’t find a more conservative person, no matter what his political affiliation has ever been or how he has ever voted. The writer demonstrates the very thing that is wrong in our world today, you sit on your couch with the computer in your lap and make judgments and form opinions without facts.

This is a travesty in the highest form and is the very reason for the division that is occurring in this country.

Anyone can meet Steve Lawson in person this Saturday at  Cleveland High School in Cleveland, Tn., at 6 p.m. in the cafeteria and I will personally introduce them to the next sheriff of Bradley County.

I totally agree with April and frankly she doesn't make statements without doing her research.  Anyone who reads her posts knows that.  I thought the same things when I read the press release, but that doesn't change who I'm voting for, Sheriff Eric Watson.

He's come face to face with the same debacles that our President has faced and like our President the sheriff has proven he was right and the accusations were wrong.  His record since his election is great and being a resident of Bradley County I can't tell you how much safer I feel with the sheriff on the job.

I, too, was concerned with the new candidates flip-flopping, not so much between political parties but just between his vocation.  I've met several first responders who make that occupation their life, they don't go out into the private sector and then return (at least not the ones I'm familiar with).  I know those in that sector could experience burn-out more so than most others but it did give me a pause moment when I read that release.

Actions speak louder than words, every voter needs to look at the record and not listen to the promises from someone that wants to replace the incumbent.  Things got better after the last election, things are better for Bradley County.  Sheriff Watson has my full support.

Gun Free Schools Are Sitting Targets

More laws banning the guns will not work, criminals don't care what the law is. Anybody that thinks we can get rid of the guns so bad people don't have access to them is a fool. I challenge our local leaders to get armed security in every school so the kids are not sitting ducks against a crazed lunatic killer. And lock the schools up so people can't get into them. School's ... (click for more)

Arm Our Kids Now - And Response

RE:  Roy Exum: Arm Our Teachers Now I am writing in response to Roy Exum's editorial. I have heard this opinion before and always wondered if it is going far enough. Some people think one or two adults should be armed in each school, or even all teachers, as does Roy.  I think all the students should be armed. It takes too long for one or two armed adults to get ... (click for more)

Howard Nips Red Bank In McGary's Final Home Game

Two consolation games were played in the District 6-AA basketball tournament Monday night at Howard’s Henry Bowles Gymnasium and one was much more significant than the other. The Brainerd Lady Panthers had a strong fourth quarter to finally pull away from Tyner en route to a 48-34 victory while the Howard Hustlin’ Tigers escaped a hungry Red Bank team by a 71-68 final that was ... Howard Plays Like A "Miss Basketball" As Bradley Rips Lady Canes For 5-3A Title

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – In each of the last eight seasons, Bradley Central coach Jason Reuter hasn’t come close to winning the District 5-3A Coach of the Year award, an award voted on by the league coaches. In those eight years, however, Reuter has directed the Bearettes to a district tournament championship. Every year. Just like clockwork. That’s a tradeoff Reuter ... (click for more)
