Tennessee Welcome Centers Host Tennessee Craft Artist Demonstrations

Tennessee Department of Tourist Development, is partnering with Tennessee Craft to sponsor Craft Artist Demonstrations in all 15 Tennessee Welcome Centers.Talented craft artists will share their creative process and skills with visitors across the great state of Tennessee. More than 14 million people visit the Tennessee Welcome Centers annually. The public is invited to stop at a Tennessee Welcome Center during the week of Oct.

6-15, to experience a piece of Americana that is “Made in Tennessee!


"Showcasing these artisans at our Welcome Centers highlights to our guests the authenticity and creative spirit of Tennessee,” said Tennessee Department of Tourist Development Commissioner Kevin Triplett. “It offers an experience that not only is ‘Made in Tennessee,’ but a product as well.”

Tanya Tucker, groundbreaking country music icon, is the 2017 Tennessee Craft Week Honorary Chairman. Ms.Tucker, the recipient of numerous awards, including two CMAs, two ACMs, and three CMT awards, is known for her sultry voice and vivacious stage presence. She is one of the most admired and respected female vocalists in the country music genre, and is proud to call Tennessee her home.

Tennessee Craft Week shines a spotlight on craft artists across the state each October. Crafts, born from d the hills of the Smoky Mountains, are evolving with artists using contemporary materials, ingenious ideas, and new ways of handling raw materials. Handmade crafts bring local communities together, driving economic impact across the state and creating a desire for tourists to get a glimpse of Tennessee. TCW is a time to celebrate handmade craft artwork Made in Tennessee” and take home an authentic treasure. This October campaign is in conjunction with American Craft Week, an annual recognition of craft across the nation.

Tennessee Craft gained national attention earning top honors with the American Craft Week Star Award in 2015 and 2016 for its statewide craft demonstrations, showcasing engaging “hands on” experiences at all Tennessee Welcome Centers and the Nashville International Airport. With 75 official events already planned for this year, numerous regional Signature Events and hundreds of artists involved, Tennessee Craft Week leads the way for dedicated craft artists to excel and thrive.

Herman Brown Charged After Striking A Pedestrian March 10

Herman Brown, Sr. 50, was indicted by the Grand Jury and arrested by the Chattanooga Police Department for striking a pedestrian on E. 11th St. on March 10.  Brown was charged with aggravated vehicular assault, vehicular assault, driving under the influence (2nd offense), driving on revoked license, financial responsibility and due care.
