Greg Callaham Graphic Design Wins 4 National Awards

Monday, October 23, 2017

Greg Callaham Graphic Design has won four American Graphic Design Awards. Graphic Design USA, a national trade publication, conferred four 2017 awards to Mr. Callaham's design work for Audi Chattanooga, Oliverio’s Ristorante, J&S Tractors, and Riverbend Ranch Steakhouse.

"It’s an honor to receive these awards,” said Mr.

Callaham. “I’m grateful to the AGDA for the opportunity to shine a national spotlight on clients such as these who see the value in memorable advertising and marketing messages. That extra effort is worth it and this something they can be very proud of."

Mr. Callaham’s award-winning billboard design for Audi Chattanooga features a 2017 Audi A4 set against a background of dark red with ghosted gears. He points to the high contrast between the white automobile and the background as a technique to make viewers really focus on the car and the selling message, while the gears give a nod to German engineering and quality.

The billboard for Oliverio’s Ristorante was displayed in Morgantown, WV. The advertiser wanted a billboard that instilled an upscale feel while still conveying a sense of invitation and welcome. They are very proud of the food they serve and the manner in which it is presented, so stock imagery was not going to get the job done. Mr. Callaham worked with them to coach a local professional photographer on how to capture the right lighting and angle on one of their signature dishes so it presented well in the medium.

J&S Tractors bought multiple outdoor advertising locations to promote their two stores in Texas. They wanted to do something different than a ho-hum tractor ad, but they had to maintain the manufacturer's corporate branding standards to qualify for co-op dollars. Mr. Callaham seized the challenge, had fun with the messaging, and the resulting campaign became one of those projects that not only was a joy to work on, but also zipped through the design process quickly and easily.

The logo Mr. Callaham created for Riverbend Ranch Steakhouse is part of a partial rebranding effort by an event facility housing several separate businesses in Oklahoma. Part of the new logo had to remain from the old logo yet the overall result needed to be fresh and exciting so viewers would notice the change. After educating himself about the advertiser’s businesses, he developed a final logo design they couldn’t wait to start using.

For 50 years the American Graphic Design Awards, through the editors of Graphic Design USA, has honored the outstanding work of creative professionals in the graphic arts community. To win an American Graphic Design Award means the entry is recognized as some of the best and brightest among thousands of entries from graphic design firms, advertising agencies, in-house corporate and institutional designers, publishers and other media across the United States, in 23 categories from print and packaging to internet and interactive design.

Mr. Callaham is the owner of Greg Callaham Graphic Design, a Chattanooga design studio delivering outstanding creative for outdoor advertising, the medical and rehabilitation device industry, catalogs and product brochures, logo design and corporate identity packages, and a wide range of other advertising and marketing materials to the global marketplace.

Roy Exum: Want To Buy An AK-47?

On Sunday night I got an email from a reader who I enjoy that read, “How about, ‘Don’t sell assault weapons to 18-year-olds.’ The blood is on your hands (and all the other gun and violence idolaters)!” While I beg to disagree with him, this is a nation where – right now, this minute -- there are an estimated ONE TRILLION rounds of ammunition and over 300 million firearms. I can ... (click for more)
